Animals

The Duchess’s interest in animals and animal welfare is reflected in many of her Patronages.

The Duchess takes a keen and knowledgeable interest in horses.

Her Royal Highness enjoys riding in her spare time and often attends racing and other equestrian events. The Duchess is Patron of the British Equestrian Federation and attended the London International Horse Show in 2005, 2006 and 2007.  In 2007, she also became Patron of the Scottish National Equestrian Centre.

During Their Royal Highnesses' tour of Pakistan in November 2006, and Egypt in March 2006, they visited the Brooke Hospital for Animals. 

Later that year, The Duchess became President of Brooke which operates worldwide providing free veterinary treatment for horses and donkeys, and advice for their owners on how to care for them.

The Duchess is also keen on dogs and her two Jack Russell terriers, Tosca and Rosie, accompanied her to the opening of the Bowood Dog Show in July 2006.

In 2007, she became Patron of the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, a dog charity, and in 2008, Her Royal Highness became Patron of the Moorland Mousie Trust, which aims to promote and conserve the Exmoor Pony.

Her Royal Highness is also Patron of the Animal Care Trust, part of the Royal Veterinary Hospital.  The Duchess visited as Patron in January 2006 to support their Paws for a Cause Appeal.

In November 2006, The Duchess became Patron of the Langford Trust for Animal Health and Welfare which is a charity that supports the University of Bristol Veterinary School to promote the practice, advancement and teaching of veterinary science.
