The Prince's Rainforest Project Photography Award: Professional and Amateur Photographers invited to send in their pictures of rainforests and deforestation

11th November 2008

The Prince’s Rainforests Project (PRP), in partnership with Sony Europe and the Sony World Photography Awards (SWPA), has created a new prize category at the world-renowned event: The Prince’s Rainforests Project Award.

Sony World Photography Awards, which takes place at the prestigious Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France between 15th and 19th April 2009, is the largest international photographic awards competition. 2009 sees environmental and ecological images take centre stage at the SWPA, as illustrated by the PRP partnership.

There are two categories for the PRP Award; professional and amateur.  You can now submit a photograph online - click here to visit the Sony World Photography Awards website.

Prizes

Professional:  The winner of the best professional photograph award will receive funding from Sony to photograph the rainforests of the world and the impacts of deforestation. The resulting images will be exhibited in a number of galleries around the world during 2009, including in the US, Asia, Australasia, Eastern and Western Europe, Africa and South America and will form part of a book highlighting the plight of the world’s rainforests.

Amateur:  A selection of the best images by amateur photographers will be displayed in Cannes during the SWPA and these images will be used by The PRP on various initiatives throughout the year to help communicate this important message.

Competition dates:  The deadline for submissions is 31st December 2008 for both categories.
