The Duchess of Cornwall becomes Patron of School and College for Blind and Visually Impaired Students
22nd June 2008
Clarence House has announced that The Duchess of Cornwall has become the new Royal Patron of the West of England School and College for young people with little or no sight.
The Duchess of Cornwall visited the School and College for blind and visually impaired students on 14th May this year and was impressed by the work that they do to provide specialist education and care for young people who are multi disabled and visually impaired.
During her visit in May The Duchess learned more about the centre’s work and chatted to many of the children and the staff who work there.
The Duchess took a closer look at students’ artwork and inspected a new state-of-the-art traffic light and pedestrian crossing system which is used within the School and College grounds to help students learn to cope with the dangers of the roads. Click here to read the story.
Today School and College Principal Tracy de Bernhardt Dunkin said: “It was a real pleasure to have The Duchess visit us and we are honoured that she has since decided to become further involved with the charity.
"We have some interesting developments and projects on the horizon so The Duchess is joining us at a very exciting time”.
