Frequently Asked Questions

Does The Duchess of Cornwall really only cost public funds just over £2,000, as has been reported in the media?

The vast majority of the expenses which The Duchess incurs are paid for by The Prince of Wales out of his private income.  The only time that The Duchess incurs an additional cost for public funds (excluding security) is when she travels for a public engagement on her own by plane, train or helicopter (The Prince pays for any travel by car).  In 2005-06, these costs added up to just over £2,000, because for most of her engagements that year she was accompanying The Prince of Wales, which means the transport costs would have been incurred anyway.

As we explain every time we talk about costs, we never discuss security or security costs, so they cannot be included. Security is a matter solely for the Home Office and the Police.
